Haunting the ruins of what was once Ios, the Riven are the tormented spirits of priests broken by the first agonising fractures between the gods and the elves. More than a thousand years later, their suffering has not ended. Trapped between life and death, these bleak apparitions cling to the living, desperately hoping to follow a departing soul into the afterlife and finally escape their endless torment.

The priesthood of the Fane of Nyrro has turned that desperation into a weapon. Encouraged to tether themselves to the Fane's enemies, the Riven drift into battle in search of the death that might grant them release, serving their eldritch masters as they pursue a salvation that may never come.
